Sleeping Lion

Title: Untitled
Year: 1995
Medium: Graphite (6h to 2b), one of the “lightest” pieces I’ve ever drawn
Format: 8″ x 6″
Source: Blank greeting card

Details: This is the first piece that I actually had the patience to draw each and every hair of the animal, and I had drawn several wild cats up this point. I’m not sure what exactly changed in me, but I started putting a lot more time and effort into my final pieces from this drawing on. All I remember thinking when I had finished this was that this was, by far, the best drawing I had ever completed. I remember being extremely proud of myself. I was 15 years old at the time. This was also the first piece that I made my own “matting” for by ripping the edges off the drawing off and putting a piece of faded black construction paper behind it.
