‘Hotel 17 to the Met’

October 10, 2007

Title: How to get from Hotel 17 to the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Year: 2007
Medium: Ink pens, varying sizes
Format: 11″ x 15″
Class: Graphic Visualization (CDES 333) at CSU, Chico
Source: Google Maps for the grid of Manhattan and Brail.org for the subway directions (try it out! it’s pretty friggin’ cool)
Other Versions: ‘Hotel 17 to the Met, Animated’
Details: For this assignment we had to illustrate a map of how to get from one point to another from a bird’s-eye view while incorporating perspective. For the trained eyes out there, you may notice that my perspective is a little off on most of the little buildings. I got lazy with the ruler and started free-handing everything. Quite frankly, I got tired of drawing all those little cubes! I guess that’s what I get for picking Manhattan as my map… Also, eventually we will be adding gray marker to our maps to give them a bit more dimension and visual interest. I completely suck at using markers, so I guess it will be good practice for me ;)

Flash Animation, Project 2

October 10, 2007

Title: Project 2 (creative, I know)
Year: 2007
Application: Adobe Flash CS3
Class: Interactive Web Animation I (CDES 314), Chico State

Requirements: “This Flash project must be a branching Flash-based website for a client. Acceptable scenarios are resume site (for yourself or another), a band’s site, a small business site, etc.” (taken from Tom Welsh’s project handout)

Details: This is my first Flash project EVER. Now, you’re probably wondering why it’s called “Project 2″, well that’s because I didn’t turn in the first assignment. Don’t ask. Also, bear in mind when you view this that I’m still learning the basics here. If it seems elementary, well that’s because it is. But even so, I really did have a great time developing this (even if it did take me 6 hours). As a side note, a couple of items are lacking in my implementation of this project… first, if you run it, the home page content (my self-portrait illustration and a short bio) don’t appear unless you actually click on “home”.  Second, the video only plays halfway through for some reason. Yeah, I don’t know…
