Title: ‘Purple Cockatiel’
Year: 1991
Medium: Othello pastel pencils
Format: approximately 8″ x 8″, glued onto slightly larger wood block with hook.
Source: Um, don’t remember
Details: Ok, I’m pretty sure that cockatiels don’t exist in this shade of purple, but I was only 11 when I drew this and of course purple was one of my favorite colors. In 1991 my parents got me a pastel pencil set… I was so ecstatic (and I still have them today)! At that time in my life I was completely obsessed with art. I wish I still had the same enthusiasm, or motivation rather. In any case, this was my first drawing with those pencils. I remember being very proud of it :) Interesting that I had already established that I needed a consistent signature on my art at such a young age… a heart-shaped balloon appears with my signature in this drawing, too.

Medium: Graphite, Pastel Pencils
Format: 11″x14″, Sketch Journal #1
Details: The studies of these golden and bald eagles were inspired by my dad because of his love for them. I was preparing for a piece I was planning on drawing for him for his birthday that year. I’ll post another version of that drawing soon, as I don’t have the original of the final anymore.
