Perspective Studies no.1 – 1998

December 1, 2007

Title: Perspective Studies no.1
Year: 1998
Medium: Graphite
Format: 18″ x 24″
Class: Beginning Drawing I (ART 003a) at CSU, Chico
Details: This image is just an 8.5″ x 11″ portion of the entire drawing. That’s as big as my scanner will go. One day I might try to get a good photograph of the entire piece and repost the image.

‘Self as Boondocks Character’

September 14, 2007

Title: ‘Self as Boondocks Character’, study
Year: 2007
Medium: Graphite
Class: Graphic Visualization (CDES 333) at CSU, Chico
Source: Huey from the Boondocks
Details: As one of the most recent assignments in my Graphic Viz class, we each had to choose a comic character and represent ourselves as that character, as well as incoporate the original artist’s line style in the comic. My first choice was to become Peppermint Patty from Peanuts. This is my second comic. I pretty much girl-ified Huey from the Boondocks.

‘Self as Peppermint Patty’

September 11, 2007

Title: ‘Self as Peppermint Patty’, study
Year: 2007
Medium: Graphite
Class: Graphic Visualization (CDES 333) at CSU, Chico
Source: Peppermint Patty by Charles Schulz
Details: As one of the most recent assignments in my Graphic Viz class, we each had to choose a comic character and represent ourselves as that character, as well as incoporate the original artist’s line style in the comic. This is me as Peppermint Patty. I think giving her pigtails, glasses, piercings (including my nose ring), and Chacos did the trick ;)

Journal 1, Eagle Studies

April 15, 2007

Year: 1994
Medium: Graphite, Pastel Pencils
Format: 11″x14″, Sketch Journal #1

Details: The studies of these golden and bald eagles were inspired by my dad because of his love for them. I was preparing for a piece I was planning on drawing for him for his birthday that year. I’ll post another version of that drawing soon, as I don’t have the original of the final anymore.

‘Wild Tree’, Study

April 12, 2007

As you can see I’m extremely creative with the titles of my art. Um, yeah… anyways…

Title: Study for ‘Wild Tree’
Year: 1998
Medium: Graphite (4h to 9b)
Format: 8.5″ x 11″, Sketch Journal inside cover
Other Versions: In-progress, version 1

Details: I’ve already started a final piece for this idea (finished it will be 14″ x 17″), but haven’t finished it yet (surprise, surprise). There’s a whole “idea” behind this piece, which I am going to wait and explain it when I post the final drawing at a later date. This study doesn’t do the concept justice.

‘The Light’, Study

February 11, 2007

Title: Study for ‘The Light’
Year: 1996
Medium: Graphite
Format: 5″ x 11″, Sketch Journal #1

Details: When I was a senior at Champion Christian School in Chico, California, I was chosen to draw the yearbook cover that year. Our yearbook’s title was ‘The Light’. The final drawing that was printed on the yearbook is still kept at the school. The original drawing that I got this from was actually a sketch from the movie Sleeping Beauty by Disney.

‘Dreaming in Red’, Study

February 7, 2007

Title: Study for ‘Perfect Peace’
Year:
1995
Medium: Acrylic, Pen & Ink, Ink Wash
Format: 11″x14″, Sketch Journal #2
Other Versions: Final

Details: This is one of the few recent pieces I have where the entire idea came from my imagination. I have a tendency to draw and paint from photographs, or at least pieces of photographs that I make into my own composition. The final of this study is the last complete piece I’ve done to date, and I created it in December 2005. I blame this lack of recent art on my master’s degree.
